Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI)

QMS Audits provides GFSI consulting to over 75 food businesses and packaging manufacturers in New Zealand & Australia. Our consultants are experienced in SQF, BRCGS and FSSC22000.

With a strong understanding of the requirements of each of the standards that makes up GFSI, we offer all types of consulting from initial site layout, initial gap analysis and annual audits through to full write ups.

What is GFSI?

The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) is a worldwide benchmark for food safety management systems. It provides global accreditation of food safety standards, which are audited by approved third-party certification bodies.

GFSI certification is required for businesses who wish to supply private label products for large retailers and directly into some Quick Service Restaurants and convenience store chains.

    • Annual third-party audits provides the leadership team with a clear view of how effectively the production and quality teams are performing.
    • Acts as a business maturity marker—signals that your company is capable and compliant.
    • You meet the requirement threshold to supply to major retailers.
    • Your business is listed on public registers (e.g., JAS-ANZ, SQFI, BRCGS), which major buyers and manufacturers use to find certified suppliers.
    • Certification demonstrates your ability to produce safe, high-quality food at scale.
    • Supports brand reputation, customer trust, and competitive positioning in tender processes.
